Biophilia moves to Royal Bournemouth Hospital
Biophilia, n.
A love or empathy with the natural world, especially when seen as a human instinct
In partnership with University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity and The Arborealists, Dorset Visual Arts (DVA) brings Biophilia, n. to Bournemouth Royal Hospital. This touring exhibition has shown previously at Dorset County Hospital, Royal United Hospital Bath and Musgrove Park, Taunton.
In a time of Climate and Ecological Emergency, a focus on the natural world and the benefits of immersion in nature are a central element to DVA’s work. Wellbeing and biophilia are important to all of us but particularly in a hospital setting. By visually representing biophilia, or ‘bringing the outside in’, we can help support the wellbeing of patients.
Alongside guest works from members of The Arborealists, featured works address various ecological concerns and notions of wellbeing. Selected artists were asked to provide short statements explaining what nature and wellbeing means to their practice, a selection of which can be viewed via the QR code below.
Tim Craven, President of The Arborealists, selected from submitted works along with Suzy Rushbrook, Arts in Hospital, Dorchester.
