Philippa Tanner

There is nothing more enjoyable for me than soaking up the colours, fragrance, movement and sounds of nature. I have been painting for over 20 years and am self-taught, living in Dorset drawing on inspiration and exploration from my surroundings. Although sometimes I create abstracts and paint landscapes, much of my work is deeply influenced by my love of flowers, sometimes these are nature studies, sometimes these are still lifes produced using oils on board or canvas. Working en plein air or in my studio, my use of thick oil paint in places, including editing and scraping as I go, allows the undersurfaces of my paintings to show through resulting in a lot of my work becoming richly coloured and textured.
