I have long been inspired by the rock formations on the Jurassic coast. I feel particularly fortunate to live in such a beautiful area, and in my drawings I depict the structure and strength of the natural environment. The fault lines, strata and patterns created by erosion, the play of light, tone and texture, and the geological forms of the coastline are what interest me most. Working with dip pen and Indian ink allows me to concentrate on intricate mark-making to emphasise the complexity and immense power of nature over time. As sections of the more fragile Dorset coastline slowly crumble into the sea, incredible fossil finds emerge with their own intricate structures having survived for millions of years. I am making visual records of a historical process stretching back into pre-history and beyond. Documenting this extraordinary subject matter gives me great pleasure and crystalises a moment in time forever.
