Sophie Glen

Sophie is a Dorset based artist working between painting and sculpture. Growing up in Hertfordshire, she would spend hours outside creating imaginary worlds using pebbles, soil, clay and fragments of pottery found in her garden. Following on from raising a family and an early career in Human Resources she decided she wanted to pursue a creative career. After a Foundation Diploma at Weymouth College, she is now completing her last year of a BA Fine Art from Southampton University. Sophie’s practice begins with materials and the stories they carry. Using cardboard, scrim, canvas, thread and paint, she build surfaces slowly through layering, stitching, covering and uncovering. Although most contain no recognisable imagery, traces of earlier images often remain beneath the surface, inspired by travel, nature or patterns she encounters.
