Poetry Recital
An opportunity to meet poet, Elisabeth Bletsoe and artist, Frances Hatch in the Atrium Gallery, Poole House, Bournemouth University on Tues 16th March.
Meet in the gallery at 1pm for poetry recital at 1.30 - 2pm.
Elisabeth Bletsoe will read ‘‘Snow Still Falls in Antarctica’’, the poem created for the current Atrium Gallery exhibition and a selection of others, all landscape-based, including poetry influenced by Hardy novels.
Elisabeth Bletsoe was born near Wimborne in Dorset and has degrees in psychology and history. She is currently Vice-Chair of Sherborne Museum and has the care of the painting collection, the botanical watercolours and the Herbarium. She has had her poetry published in many different countries from Estonia to Japan and has been described as "one of the most fascinating poets of her generation". Her work falls mainly into the category of radical landscape poetry, that is, geographically based with a deep psychological dimension. Her influences include folklore, botany, medicine, geology, history and the novels of Thomas Hardy.
Her collection "Landscape from a Dream" was published by Shearsman Press in 2008 and a "Selected Early Works" has been produced this year.
Frances Hatch, Poole based artist has her exhibition on show in the gallery until Sat 20 February. The work shows the process of anticipation, journey, ‘being on location’ and reflection on her visit to Antarctica in 2005.
A review of DRAWN TO ANTARCTICA by Jeremy Hooker, poet, critic and recently retired Professor of English at The University of Glamorgan will appear in the March/April Issue of Resurgence Magazine. The book is available in the gallery. Frances is on the steering group of the Poole Literary Festival which is to be held in October 2010.
Frances, Elisabeth and Curator, Julie Herring will all be happy to meet with you at this lunchtime event. Please pass this information on to any colleagues who may be interested!
Many thanks
