Painting
All my paintings are produced outside on the spot in all weathers in order to achieve that intense confrontation with the landscape that is essential to my work. I produce paintings that reflect not a fixed viewpoint and a frozen moment in time but a particular place that is experienced over a period of several hours and using senses other than the purely visual. The exact time and date are recorded and are an important, integral part of the work. I have also endeavoured to develop a personal visual language that integrates the conscious manipulation of paint with the unconscious, serendipitous happenings of the palette.
Exhibitions include: five one-man shows, including the County Museum, Dorchester and Bridport Arts Centre, five times finalist in the Laing Landscape Exhibition, Mall Galleries, London; the Discerning Eye, Mall Galleries (Sir Roger de Grey's selection); featured in the Guardian "Art for Sale" catalogue; and New English Art Club. More recently my work has been featured in the book "Fifty Wessex Artists".
My work is represented in many important private collections, and on an ongoing basis by Alpha House Gallery, Dorset, the Bohun Gallery, Henley-on-Thames and Anthony Hepworth Fine Art, Bath.
