Jane Goodson

Botanical Artist - Watercolour

Jane has always been a keen amateur artist, even from an early age, however, in recent years, Jane has concentrated on drawing and painting plants of varying types, specialising in the more detailed botanical illustrations. With a fondness for the more exotic orchids, whose flowers are particularly long-lasting (which is just as well as it can often take up to 40 hours to complete a painting), Jane has a fascination for the accuracy of detail that can be achieved.

Having gained a love for this specialism, Jane was accepted onto the prestigious Diploma in Botanical Illustration course run by the Society of Botanical Artists (SBA). With only 60 students from around the world admitted each year, it is evident Jane had a rare, if raw, talent even then.

As a full-time profession, Jane is currently involved with IT within the local Primary Care Trust, designing and teaching clinical IT processes for, amongst others, GP practices.

Future ambitions lie in combining her professional and amateur talents and teaching botanical illustration. However, Jane continues to concentrate on her SBA course, with the ultimate aim of achieving the “holy grail” in botanical illustration terms of gaining membership to the SBA and being awarded a Royal Horticultural Society medal for artists producing the most accurate of plant illustration.

Jane has recently produced a small selection of some of her work as greetings cards so that more can share in her love of botanical illustration.

Jane's original watercolour paintings, limited edition prints and cards can be obtained directly from Jane.
