Gerry Dudgeon

Painting

After studying at Camberwell Art School and Reading University, Gerry Dudgeon now travels frequently to the Atlas mountains of Morocco, the desert villages of Rajasthan and remote Greek islands, to gain inspiration for his paintings.

He absorbs the atmosphere of the culture, recording these sensations in drawings and watercolours, and by meeting local people to gain a better understanding of their life. He then makes semi-abstract canvases back in his Dorset studio, using memory, imagination and sketchbook research.

He enjoys scraping back the surface to reveal underlying layers, as well as building up the paint in glazes to radiate light.
