Dorset Art Weeks has Evolved!

A pioneer of open studio events in the South West, Dorset Art Weeks started in 1992 and has grown in size and success with each biennial event. Throughout 2006 the organisation went through a significant change in order to ensure its continued success and future stability.

The Dorset Art Weeks Association of old has now become Dorset Visual Arts Promotions Ltd, which will continue to develop high profile events, publications and other opportunities for the county’s artists.

A new Charitable Trust called Dorset Visual Arts was also established in 2006 with the aim of celebrating and advancing understanding of the visual and applied arts to a broader audience. It is managed by a group Trustees with wide-ranging backgrounds and includes artists, makers, graphic designers, ex lawyers, journalists, arts event directors and gallery owners. The Trustees support a small team of paid staff and project co-ordinators.

Dorset Visual Arts will continue to run Dorset Art Weeks Open Studios every 2 years and plans to stage other artist and makers events on a more regular basis. For up to date information on forthcoming events please see the ‘news’ section of the website.
