Michelle Rumney

Over the past year, Michelle’s works with paper, maps and stitching have taken a back seat while she’s been walking and mapping. Earlier this year, she started an artist-in-residence project with ArtsTaunton, mapping Taunton’s green spaces and waterways to find out what’s so special about them to local people. This evolved into creating some very green and physical sacred spaces in collaboration with fellow artist-in-residence, poet Christopher Jelley.
These installations -  a meadow labyrinth in Longrun Meadow and a grass labyrinth in Priorswood - provide, like some of Michelle’s smaller work on paper and canvas, the opportunity to take a very long walk in a relatively compact space (if you can call a 20 metre-wide labyrinth compact, that is!). So, her work has grown in scale lately and she’s looking forward to creating the next one…
