Textiles, Surface Pattern Design

I describe myself as a surface pattern designer and textile artist specialising in the home interiors market. I started out as a designer for Axminster Carpets Ltd in the ‘80s and have been involved in design ever since.

I love fabrics, colour and pattern and part of my passion is creating wall panels from merino fleece and silks which are wet felted by hand. Sometimes the pieces are finished with beads or stitching to highlight a particular area of the design, for example the anthers of a flower.

Felting gives me a lot of freedom; it’s a great medium to work with and extremely tactile! It has inspired me to explore new ways of expressing my art and also helps me to experiment with blocks of colour, which is sometimes transferred to my surface design work. Inspiration comes from everything around me, particularly changes in our environment caused by weather, erosion and the seasons.

As well as wall art, I draw and paint designs which are purchased by manufacturers to develop into fabrics, wallpaper and other homeware products.

I also have my own collection of linen fabrics which are suitable for making curtains, blinds and other soft furnishings. The patterns on my fabrics are based on my original drawings and floral studies.

I aim to offer you something a little bit special and a little bit different – please enjoy my designs and feel inspired!

You can see more of my fabric design work by visiting my website, or why not follow my Facebook page where I share trends, inspiration and the development of my work.
